Giant Zambian open-pit mine relies on Repro and Ricoh to keep logistics running smoothly.
FQM Trident operates Kalumbila Mine, one of Zambia’s largest infrastructure projects, producing around 300,000 tonnes of copper annually. When print downtime started affecting transport schedules, they chose Repro.
THE CHALLENGE
Print downtime was delaying truck movements at a remote mine site.
Kalumbila Mine is around 150 kilometres from the nearest large town. Truck drivers carry essential paperwork, licences, and consignment notes. Printing is a critical function. But the previous print provider could not offer regular maintenance visits, leaving FQM Trident’s internal IT team to service devices they were not trained to fix. The result was frequent downtime affecting transportation schedules as drivers waited for documents.
What the IT team was dealing with.
Routine maintenance tasks were time-consuming and labour-intensive. No centralised management solution meant separate visits to each device for the same issue. Spare parts were difficult to source remotely, and when available, delivery costs were high.
What FQM Trident needed.
We wanted to improve the availability and efficiency of our print devices, reduce our administration and maintenance costs, and improve the print service for our drivers. The key was finding a partner with the skills to manage the entire print environment, lifting the burden off our internal teams.

THE SOLUTION
A fully managed print environment, deployed in one week.
Proof of concept in one week.
Repro deployed 12 Ricoh printers as an initial proof-of-concept, completing device rollout and user authentication setup within one week. FQM Trident was impressed enough to proceed with the full deployment.
50 devices deployed, 48 of them MFPs.
The full rollout replaced existing devices with 50 new Ricoh printers, with intelligent print software enabling centralised management, usage tracking, and cost visibility across the entire site.
Secure document release via RFID.
Users authenticate by presenting an RFID card to release documents from the print queue. A feature FQM Trident previously lacked entirely, now standard across the site.
24/7 on-site support.
A Repro service manager is available round the clock at Kalumbila Mine, providing issue resolution and ongoing optimisation. Spare parts and consumables are held on site, eliminating long-distance delivery delays.

THE RESULTS
Fewer devices, lower costs — managed print results at Kalumbila Mine.
The combination of new Ricoh MFDs and on-site support led to a major boost in print availability at Kalumbila Mine. Switching to managed service has freed FQM Trident’s IT team to focus on more productive work. With 40% fewer devices on site and consumables costs down 25%, the mine now has deeper insight into usage trends, printer lifecycles, and user behaviour.
